Banjo is a brown honey bear and is one of the two main protagonists of the Banjo-Kazooie series, along with Kazooie the Breegull, he is polite and friendly, and is very adventurous. Banjo often dislikes Kazooie's attitude.
Kazooie is an orange Breegull and the best friend and companion of Banjo, she is one of the two main protagonists of the Banjo-Kazooie series along with Banjo himself. Kazooie has a sarcastic nature and has an attitude, as opposed to Banjo's politeness, however, she has a good heart and high spirited. Like Sonic, she has a habit of giving insulting names to enemies.

- Due to Rare's current relationship with Microsoft, Banjo and Kazooie are arguably the first joint characters not to originate from the Mario, Sonic or Kirby franchises. He is followed by Yooka and Laylee, from Yooka-Laylee, and Lilac, from Freedom Planet.
- This is debateable however, as Banjo, through Diddy Kong Racing, is part of the extended Mario universe.
